Remetea: The Best Herbal Tea For Insomnia

Last Thursday in the middle of a Colorado snow storm I stumbled across my latest Healthy Discovery. It’s pretty awesome and I kinda want to scream from the roof tops and tell everyone about it, but I guess that’s why I have a blog, right? The modern day version of screaming from a roof top.

Here’s the story.

I was out of my Gaia Herb Sleep & Relax Tea so I went to my local Whole Foods to buy more. I drink a cup of this most nights before bed. Other companies such as; Traditional Medicinals, Yogi Tea and Celestial Seasonings make their version of this tea too. They are all similar, although lately I’ve liked and used Gaia’s tea…until Thursday night.

As I stood in the Whole Food’s supplement aisle and chatted with the Whole Foods supplement lady I noticed this package on the bottom shelf.

“What’s the difference between this tea and Gaia’s Sleep & Relax Tea?” I said.

The Whole Foods supplement lady said, “I haven’t tried it, but it’s moving quickly, flying off the shelves. People really like it.”

Huh?

I still wasn’t completely sold, but the unique package and fact that it was loose tea and not in individual tea bags caught my attention, and yet the thing that really made me look twice was the price. It’s TEN DOLLARS PER PACKAGE.

“Seriously?”

So the supplement lady and I started comparing ingredients. Remetea is not the normal chamomile, passion flower type calming herbs that Gaia and Celestial Seasoning use. The Remetea product has herbs for comprehensive body healing and regenerating the organs, like oregano and strawberry leaf. This made no sense to me regarding how this would help me sleep as the ingredient list was out of the realm of what I know for a calming herbs, so I decided to buy it. I paid ten dollars, walked out of Whole Foods and made myself a cup of Remetea. I didn’t expect much and didn’t think too much more about it.

OH MY GOODNESS!

Um, this stuff is amazing. Within a couple minutes all my muscles felt notably relaxed and I actually felt like I could go to sleep. Like right now. The reason this is amazing is because I don’t fall asleep easily. That’s why I drink sleepy time tea and go through various rituals, bio-hacks every night so I can sleep. I’ll write about those in another post. But for now I was blown away. I loved the relaxed (non drugged) feeling I felt. Whoa. What is this stuff? I start Googling. Here’s what I discovered.

Per the Remetea website. They are based in Boulder, Colorado and you can find their products in most all King Soopers, City Markets, Lucky’s Market and Whole Foods in Colorado. If you don’t live in Colorado you can order online.

Here’s what is interesting. Read this!

“On furlough from studying medicine in St. Petersburg, USSR, Anna Gutkina discovered notebooks filled with botanical formulas in her family’s library, written in 1834.

When World War II engulfed the Soviet Union, Anna was drafted to serve as a medical officer. When the enemy cut supply lines, it was impossible to procure medicine without risking more lives. During these times, she used the remedies from the ancient texts to successfully treat the wounded.

After the War, she continued to practice medicine in Soviet Russia, incorporating herbalism principles in her treatment methodology – including the use of specially formulated functional teas.

Anna immigrated her family to the United States in 1988, and transferred her experiential knowledge from treating tens of thousands of patients, to her youngest son, Gordon. After Anna passed, Gordon and his eldest son began distributing her functional teas under the brand name, Remeteas, in order to carry on Anna’s legacy, and share her battle-tested formulations in America.”

Now remember, I knew nothing about this company before Thursday night. As with all my Healthy Discoveries I have no financial connection or motivation in selling you products. But if there are two things that catch my attention it is 1.) when I personally experience results and 2.) when old world healing techniques, remedies, and herbs are involved. As I’ve written about before, I went to a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor when I lived in London, England and the herbs he gave me were amazing. I’ve never found anyone in the U.S. to mimic his healing knowledge and herbal prescriptions.

After learning that the tea I just drank is a Russian medicinal recipe from 1834, I knew I definitely found my next Healthy Discovery. Plus I love their name: R E M E T E A = R E M E D Y. Get it? Clever, huh?

I kept reading and Googling. These are the contraindications listed on the Sleep Well package:

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

DRUGS: Do not take with antacids containing aluminum, estrogens, fluphenazine, lithium, or warfarin. Consult with physician before use with cardioactive drugs (e.g. Digitalis spp., strophanthin, digitoxin, digoxin) or sedatives.

CONDITIONS: Do not use if allergic to the strawberry plant, or plants of the Asteraceae family. Do not use if you have diabetes, sickle-cell disease, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, or any type of anemia.

DO NOT USE if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Do not drink more than 2 servings per day.

I don’t have any of these conditions and I don’t take any of the contraindicated drugs, so I’m good.

But here’s what this tells me. This is full blown herbal medicine. There are no contraindications on the other mass market sleepy time teas but I also don’t feel the effects from them like I do from this tea.

I kept researching.

Along with the Sleep Well Tea, Remeteas also makes:

Relax For Inner Peace

Let Go Of External Stress

Fortify Your Immune System

Vitalize Your Mind & Body

Digest Well.

I want to try them all!

Per the package instructions for Relax, Let Go and Immune System Teas you are directed to drink them two weeks on and three weeks off. Again, this tells me this is some strong medicine.

They are all 100% organic, GMO free, vegan, preservative, gluten, soy, dairy, calorie and caffeine free.

If herbal medicine isn’t your cup of tea (pun intended) then there are other insomnia, sleep hacks that I will share soon. As for me, I can’t wait to drink this new Healthy Discovery every night before bed now. It works. I love the non-drugged-relaxed-feeling it creates so I can fall asleep, and that is so worth the ten bucks. Seriously!
