Achieving Victory Over a Toxic World
Sometimes people ask me what I think about doing a detox or a cleanse. My response is to proceed with caution. I think people should be under medical supervision if they chose to embark upon any detox or fast that lasts longer than three days.
Detoxing the body is a complex, systematic, often lengthy undertaking. I’m not against it, but it’s not for everyone all the time! I have watched people make themselves very sick during a do-it-yourself-detox.
People often think a detox is “cleansing the colon.” The reality is, the liver, kidneys, lymph, skin, lungs and blood are involved as much as the colon. There are times when it is not appropriate to push the elimination pathways in these organs. A trained physician should assess and manage the detox process.
Heavy metals and numerous environmental toxins like mercury, phthalates, styrene, are released during a detox. More often then not, the body is unable or ill-equipped to properly eliminate them. Specific preparations, co-factors and catalysts must be in place.
Before I began teaching my corporate health workshops I worked at the Rocky Mountain Drug and Poison Center. They take hundreds of calls each day and work with ER doctors regarding toxicology issues. I learned a great deal about the toxic effects and the antidotes to things in and around the body.
Today I frequently attend medical lectures put on by a colleague of mine, Mark Schauss.
Mark offers comprehensive and safe ways to detox your body and your environment. He also teaches doctors how to interpret blood, urine and hair analysis. Mark wrote, Achieving Victory Over A Toxic World
- Common sense (and not so apparent) tips to improve our environment
- 10 things you can do in the face of a toxic world
- What the model of health needs to be
- Tidbits and other off the cuff clinical pearls
- Aging, obesity and toxicity
Mark is constantly researching and sharing cutting edge research. However, this is one of Mark’s philosophies, “Be skeptical and apply the previous concepts to your decisions about what is real and what isn’t. When someone says product XYZ will cure whatever you have and you’ll get results right away run to the nearest exit, and run like hell.”
Ah, music to my ears! Always ask questions (especially when it comes to your health), think critically, do your own research and get second, even third opinions. Mark is one the most respected and knowledgeable people in the field of lab interpretation and toxicology issues. I have a lot of respect for him because of his solid yet unassuming research.
Mark has a unique understanding of which labs to run and how to determine what is going on inside the body. He then offers the patient and doctor the best tools and options available. Mark also has a daughter who has a life threatening form of epilepsy. His daughter’s own detox healing journey, which he writes about in his book, is nothing short of amazing.
Mark now provides a great podcast. You can listen on-line or down-load his podcasts for a greater understanding of toxicity and health. He recently interviewed Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt who is from Germany. Dr. Klinghardt is one of the top physicians in the world when it comes to heavy metals and detox issues. His book Achieving Victory Over A Toxic World, Let’s Talk Real Health Podcast and his Toxic World Blog are all great Healthy Discoveries. They are invaluable resources when looking for a comprehensive detox approach and resources for optimal health!
