Six Word Stories

Ernest Hemingway once said his best work was in a story he wrote in just six words. The UK Guardian liked this idea and challenged contemporary writers to write their own six word stories. Ali Smith wrote this; “In the end, everything simply began.”

I love this thought as we end one year tomorrow and begin another. Traditionally this is the time of year when people focus on and talk about their goals, intentions and resolutions for the New Year. Having a vision (plan) can be beneficial and healthy, because it gives us measurable outcomes and a sense of control. However, we often don’t have the luxury of planning and controlling and things just happen.

Whether you perceive your experiences from 2007 as fair or unfair, burdens or gifts, triumphs or struggles I find a profound comfort and truth in Smith’s story; “In the end, everything simply began.”

Happy New Year!
