True Food Kitchen

Last night I met my friend Barb at True Food Kitchen in Cherry Creek. It was sprinkling rain off and on but the temperature hovered around 80 degrees so we sat outside and had dinner on the covered patio.

My girlfriends and I enjoy the “foodie” restaurant options in Denver and Boulder. We usually pick a different place each week for happy hour and/or dinner. Some of our favorite places are Tag, Osteria Marco, Linger, CooHills, Z Cuisine, Pizzeria Locale, Brasserie Ten Ten, The Kitchen, Izakaya Den, and the list goes on and on. There are so many delicious, fun restaurants that we patronize in Denver, Boulder.

Now, when I say foodie we are not like the people in this video, although it is hysterical and one of my all time favorite videos. You should click the link and watch. Really, it’s awesome! But in all seriousness we enjoy the atmosphere, the creative menus and the whole, real food that these places have to offer. And I promise, we aren’t obnoxious like the foodie stereotype suggests.

Plus it has become our weekly meetup. The girlfriends in the HBO show, Sex in the City, would meet for brunch to catch up on each others lives and their weekly joys and struggles; we do the same but instead of brunch we meet for dinner and happy hours.

Here we are at the Corner Office last September.

So when we ate at True Food on Sunday instead of posting my pictures on Instagram like I usually do, I decided to share the experience with you here on my blog.

True Food Kitchen opened in Cherry Creek North last October. This Phoenix-based chain developed its menu in partnership with Andrew Weil, the doctor and holistic health advocate who heads the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

The restaurant is light and airy with tall ceilings and large windows. It feels very contemporary with wood floors, exposed beams and lime-green upholstery.

This is the description True Food posts on their website:

“You don’t have to be a die-hard Yogi to dine at True Food Kitchen. You need only a desire to give your body nutrients, and your palate something memorable. The basis for Dr. Andrew Weil’s anti-inflammatory diet isn’t meant to deprive a healthy body of great flavors, it’s meant to take popular trends in cuisine and pair them with healthy living. Try the kale and quinoa, you’ll live longer. Drink the seabuckthorn and acai, you’ll feel better. At True Food Kitchen, we want you to feel better, live longer, and make your mouth happy in the process.”

The menu has a unique variety of food, flavors and creations (just the way we like it). Barb and I split everything. The kitchen separated the food and drinks into two glasses and plates before serving. I only took pictures of my food in case you’re thinking the servings look small. We started with the Kale-Aid: a kale, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger green drink $6.00

We followed that with the Mediterranean Chopped Salad: cucumber, olive, cherry tomato  quinoa, feta, marcona almond and lemon oregano vinaigrette $10.00

For our main course we had the Grilled Rainbow Trout with cauliflower, spinach, fennel, capers, olives and lemon $20.00

And for dessert we had an orange and pistachio sorbet $2.50 per scoop.

So for $27.00 each (tax and tip included) we had a nice sampling of True Food’s menu. I would definitely recommend True Food, or any of the restaurants I mentioned above. Also, take a look at this list of the new 2013 restaurants in Denver. Our city is becoming quite the “foodie” hangout. My friends and I certainly don’t lack healthy dining options, that’s for sure.
