Healthy Packaged Food Discoveries
Let the record show that home cooked, non-fried meals, with a lot of vegetables are the way to go.
With that disclaimer out of the way, here are six of my favorite foods that come with a bar code.
Adam’s 100% Natural Peanut Butter
Peanuts are the only ingredient in this product- no trans-fats or chemicals, I love that! And yes, it is very tasty. Available at King Soopers (Kroger) Stores.
No artificial growth hormones. No artificial sweeteners. Contains live cultures S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. acidophilus and Bifidus. Certified gluten-free. Available at Whole Foods and some King Soopers (Kroger) Stores.
Gluten-free cereal which contains nutritious whole grains: quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, and flax. It is low in sugar (4 grams per serving) and doesn’t contain any high-fructose corn syrup or trans-fats.
I eat this all the time. I mix it with Brown Cow Yogurt for breakfast and I carry the dry cereal in a zip-lock bag for long airplane flights. Unfortunately this isn’t easy to find, I’ve had the best luck at Vitamin Cottage.
This 20-year old company specializes in frozen vegetarian, organic, no GMO’s, special diets (gluten-free, dairy-free).
They make pizza, pot pies, mac-n-cheese, soups, hot pockets, veggie burgers and much more. Available at King Soopers (Kroger), most grocery store chains and Whole Foods.
IZZE Sparkling Juice
I like the entrepreneurial spirit behind this sparkling juice. Their logo, brand and company culture are fresh and hip. I mean seriously, isn’t this the coolest food and beverage website you’ve ever seen?
Sparkling Grapefruit is my favorite. There is no high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, caffeine or preservatives. However the sugar content is the same as other juice and soda products so consume sparingly! Available at King Soopers (Kroger), Whole Foods.
Ah innovation! Let’s mix root vegetables (sweet potato, parsnip, batata, taro, yuca) and bake them into chips. Now why didn’t I think of that?
Try ’em, I think you’ll like ’em.
Available at King Soopers (Kroger) and Whole Foods.
I have no financial connection to any of these companies or products. This is just a random list of things I like…
