Five Healthy Things To Do In Denver

If you are visiting Denver or even if you live here, this is my list of Healthy Discoveries in the Mile High City:

1. WaterCourse Vegetarian Restaurant– A popular and healthy restaurant to know about. The sister restaurant, City O City is vegetarian and gluten-free. I like their gluten-free pizza and muffins. Both restaurants make a homemade ginger ale which is really good!

2. LakeSteam Bath– The steam baths are in an old Jewish bath house. This is not a posh spa, but a nice, relaxing no-frills place with a eucalyptus steam room, a dry heat room, and giant hot tub. The eucalyptus steam room is my favorite after I have had a long day or if I have a cold. Its $14 for the steam baths and $30 for a one-hour massage. Its a great deal and I feel amazing after the steam!

3. Float Tank- “A Floatation Tank is a light-proof, sound-insulated capsule which contains a shallow 30 cm pool of 25% saturated Epsom Salts solution – five times denser and more buoyant than sea water. Lying back, you float effortlessly on the surface with all parts of your body firmly supported. Your muscles no longer have to fight against the constant downward push of gravity. As muscle tension melts away, you find yourself floating weightless and free, like an astronaut in zero gravity conditions.”

I came across float tanks when I lived in London years ago. I will write a full blog post on float tanks very soon; in the meantime, here is more information and benefits. They are very cool, however, If you are claustrophobic you probably won’t like float tanks! This is the only one in Colorado and they aren’t very common in the US, so check it out while in Denver!

4. MoonDance Botanicals– My friend Tonja owns this shop. She makes gourmet bath and beauty products. They are fabulous! Her face products are better than any commercial department store line (in my opinion, and she doesn’t pay me to say that :-). Her products are all natural and organic with limited ingredients. This is my blog post about MoonDance. I love her homemade chocolate, pumpkin and papaya face masks. She also teaches regular classes about; botanical foot pampering, natural cleaning products and herbal cleanses.

5. Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers- Family owned health food store based in Denver. They have 26 stores throughout Colorado. They are a smaller version of Whole Foods and often much cheaper than Whole Foods.

* Tattered Cover Bookstore – This is an honorable mention. Can I call a bookstore “healthy”? Oh well, I love to read so I’m including it! It is a fabulous independent bookstore that is unique to Colorado. They have three locations in the Denver area.
