On The Road In Virginia

First of all, I want to apologize for being so remiss as of late!

In the past I planned my absences and had posts prepared. This week I wasn’t as prepared.

Don’t worry, I have not lost my passion for this blog! In fact, I love blogging each week. And can you believe that December 4th, 2008 was the one-year anniversary for the Healthy Discoveries by Jolene Blog? I feel like a bad parent for not acknowledging that birthday. 112 posts and counting. Where did this year go?

Iowa, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia again, Washington, California, New Mexico, Colorado and Virginia are the places I traveled for work.

I also discovered, Bhakti Chai, The Beauty Mark, Gluten Free Baking, The Hip Tranquil Chick, Wet Sock Therapy, The Meaning of Food Cravings, The Business of Being Born, Plantable Greeting Cards, Neti Pots, Acai, The Best and Worst Seafood, The Dirty Dozen, A Lighter Shade of Green, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly among many others along the way.

What could possibly be left to “discover” in 2009? Oh, I think I’ll come up with something! Healthy Discoveries seem to cross my path fairly frequently 🙂 and 2009 is already gearing up to be a very exciting year!

Back to my absence excuse – I was traveling. This week I was in Richmond Virginia. I love going there! If I were to work in a traditional weekly office setting I would stake my claim right here!

And if I had to live somewhere other than Denver, I think I would be quite happy in Richmond. Seattle, I love you, really I do; but Richmond is giving you a run for the money…

I returned for my annual visit and two days of teaching. The difference this year (and back to my absence excuse) is that I was being video taped, for many, many hours.

Now moi must watch 6-hours of herself on video. The end goal is to create a two-minute demo tape of myself, with music, out-takes, and split screens.

I’ve taught hundreds of classes around the country for 4+ years and never once have I watched myself on video for more than a minute or two – ah, the cringe factor! I have to mark the exact time and “scenes” I want the videographer to edit.

Here’s the truly shameless part. I actually watched 3-hours of these tapes on the plane from Charlotte back to Denver with my earphones plugged into my laptop last night. My seatmate looked at me, looked at my laptop, looked back at me, and made a strange face. I’m pretty sure my seatmate was silently thinking, “what a total weirdo!”

Oh well, if you’re trapped on an airplane for 4-hours without a good book to read, watching videos of yourself is nothing short of humorous- for everyone involved. It was also much better than having people Cough. On. Me. All. The. Way. Back. To. Denver. !

I’ll return to blogging about my Healthy Discoveries next week. In the meantime, I’ve been keeping my eye on the Blogosphere and here are some honorable mentions from my week away.

Oprah’s Plight – The Internet has been on fire over Oprah’s 200 lb weight announcement this week. One of my favorite MD’s (Michael Eades) summed up her weight problems very well in this post. Also check out what commenter #12 had to say, wink, wink 🙂

More Bad News About Bisphenol AMark Schauss, from Toxic World Blog reports BPA has now been found to interfere with the effect of chemo as it stops the cancer cells from dying. Take home message, avoid those hard plastics!

And this is wacky. Tim Ferris From 4-Hour Work Week, suggests ice baths and espresso naps for insomnia. It’s just weird enough that yours truly is actually tempted to give it try.

Who me. Insomnia? Crossing timezones like it’s all in a day’s work. No!

Have a great weekend!

    Hey Jolene!

My family lives in Richmond! Did you go to Ukrops? Best supermarket ever!

I like going there in the fall. The trees are all so pretty without going to far into the cold north country!

I would not worry much about finding new health discoveries in 2009. Expect the unexpected.

Dr, J – I LOOOOOOVE Ukrops, I totally agree, best supermarket ever. There is also a Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods there as well. The Short Pump area off Broad St is so cool these days. Yay, Richmond, VA!
