Heart Disease:
A fish oil diet decreased cholesterol up to 27 percent, and triglycerides up to 64 percent as compared to a low-fat diet. —Lancet
Omega 3′s in the diet appears to be a prudent and effective approach to preventing heart disease.—American Journal of Cardiology
Immune System & Inflammation:
Supplementation with Omega 3 could offer a novel nontoxic approach to affecting inflammatory conditions.-–Biochemical Pharmacology
Arthritis:
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis who received Omega 3 fats for 12 weeks had less morning stiffness and fewer tender joints. One to two months after stopping the Omega 3 fats their condition deteriorated.—The Lancet
Fish oil was shown to suppress lupus in mice.—Journal of Immunology
A double-blind randomized, controlled study of psoriasis patients found that after 8 weeks of Omega 3 supplementation there was significant lessening of symptoms and less of the body surface was affected by the psoriasis.—The Lancet
Cancer:
Advanced breast cancer in animals who were given Omega 3 fats prolonged survival and slowed tumor growth.—American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
Nervous System Disorders:
Schizophrenia, manic-depressive-like illnesses, phobic and neurotic disorders, tinnitus, and fatigue appear to be helped by omega-3 fatty acids.—Biological Psychiatry
