Coconut Water

December 9th, 2007

Have you heard of it? I hadn’t until just recently. A doctor I know in Colorado suggested I drink coconut water for isotonic hydration (pushes water into the cells more efficiently) before I fly. FYI all you frequent flyer’s out there, give this a try, just don’t take it on the plane with you, a mistake I made. Yes, I know better! but I wasn’t thinking at the ticket counter as I moved containers of coconut water into my carry-on bag in an attempt to reduce the weight in my checked bag. I wanted to cry from total frustration when the TSA made me throw away all my coconut water before I could continue through security, anyway I digress.

Coconut water is not just for dehydrated air travelers, it is the “healthy Gatorade” because it replaces electrolytes and potassium without the sugar. This is a great drink for everyone to add to their daily water intake, especially people who exercise, live in hot climates and/or high altitudes. Now that I’ve been drinking it I have seen it everywhere.

Zico, Vita Coco and O.N.E. are the major coconut water manufactures.

Here’s a recent L.A. news clip about the trendy drink.
